About Us
"Madeline” has been a long-time patient and volunteer at Fan Free Clinic. She recently was seen for a blood clot. As with many of our clients, she was reticent to present for services anywhere else even though she was urged to go to the Emergency Room. The providers at Fan Free worked with Madeline to make her understand the severity of her situation. After over an hour of discussion (and some lengthy phone calls to MCV) she agreed to go to MCV for treatment. Doctors at MCV prescribed medication and were able to work with her for payment assistance. She is fully recovered!
ABOUT US

Fan Free Clinic (FFC) is Virginia’s first free clinic, having been incorporated in 1970.

Mission: Fan Free Clinic provides medical treatment, health education, and social services to those in the Richmond area with limited access to care.  We place special emphasis on welcoming the least served.

FFC's mission propels the agency to utilize creativity and ingenuity in maximizing resources to meet the needs of the community.  The Clinic's inclusive approach to service, through health education, case management and a Medical Clinic staffed by medical professionals, medical students and community health care volunteers, provides for a strong, comprehensive and highly effective clinic which encourages patients to remain in care.

Anyone requesting services is provided care; the only eligibility requirement is the need for service.

History of the Fan Free Clinic
In the early days, much of the Clinic's work was focused on women's health and prevention of transmissible diseases.  The demands on the Clinic-located for its first 27 years in Richmond's Fan District- grew quickly, as did its range of medical services.  In the 1980s, when the AIDS epidemic struck, Fan Free Clinic established the first community based AIDS outreach program in the Commonwealth, and continues to retain a leadership position among AIDS service organizations today.

With ever-growing numbers of patients, the Clinic was bursting at the seams in the 1990s.  Thus, with an outpouring of support from the community, Fan Free Clinic moved to its current home on North Thompson Street in 1998.

Today, Fan Free Clinic serves over 12,500 individuals each year through its many programs.
